JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Charge Nurse is responsible for directing patient care for designated shifts. The Charge Nurse will report to the Director of Operations or Medical Director and will work with related departments to ensure that patient care issues are addressed during the designated shift.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

-Staff Scheduling for OR Suites plus clinic staffing, as well.
-Organize staffing for coverage of the clinic, pre-operative tasks, intraoperative tasks and post-operative tasks and areas.
-Make sure that all clinical staff get a 30-minute lunch break. Often that may require a charge to cover someone.
-Cover clinic when needed, depending on patient demands.
-Oversee and ensure that all required aspects of ongoing QuadA requirements and recertification requirements are met.
-Supervise all staff in the clinic.
-Handle staff patient care questions and manage clinic patients.
-Oversee the purchasing of OR supplies, specifically larger OR supplies. -Delegate as needed.
-Coordinate with medical director on the purchase, maintenance, and process of narcotics.
-Ensure that regular inspections of the generator, medical gas, HVAC and all equipment are performed.
-Ensure that medical gas orders are made and completed.
-Ensure that all narcotics are reconciled each day and rectify any discrepancies.
-Supervise all clinical staff including annual reviews, praise, discipline etc.

Duties/Responsibilities:

-Assists staff nurses in their evaluation and assessment of patient needs and in direct patient care. Orders medications as prescribed.
-Manages scheduling of patient appointments, receives a report from the previous shift of all patients and identifies special patient care needs.
-Adjusts patient assignments to meet special needs.
-Makes patient rounds and notes problems for follow-up.
-Participates in staff conferences.
-Makes nursing assignments for the next day.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Responsible for day-to-day clinical/surgical operations of a multi-provider practice management
-Participates in QI and is a member of the QI committee

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

-Nursing and leadership skills.

Education and Experience:

-Professional nurse with a current state license.
-Previous administrator or management job experience within a surgery center or hospital operating room
-Quad A accreditation or comparable knowledge and proficiency.

Management experience in the following departments:

-Pre-operative services
-Operating room
-Post-anesthesia care unit
-Anesthesia
-Sterile processing
-Credentialing
-Quality assurance
-Quality improvement


Physical Requirements:

-Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
-Must be able to lift 15-25 pounds at times.
