Job Summary: Define processes, procedures and quality standards for all personnel engaged in performing sterile processing procedures. Develop, implement and facilitate procedures for determining needs and providing appropriate trays, supplies and equipment to OR and related locations. Develop, implement and facilitate procedures for surgical instrument set processing to include the development and writing of standard work. Manage, coordinate, perform, train and supervise all processes related to decontamination, cleaning, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments in accordance with established standards. Define and implement Quality standards for the department. Ensure that employees are properly trained and operate within the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to IAHCSMM, CBSPD, AORN, The Joint Commission, FDA, CDC, OSHA, AAMI and those of CaroMont. Perform various administrative duties related to the department performance, quality assurance and education/training of employees. Works collaboratively with surgical and clinical staff to ensure that surgical instrumentation, equipment and supplies are prepared and ready so that surgical cases can operate efficiently and on time. Acts as a department resource and liaison for vendors, physicians, nurses and other departments. This position is a leadership role and has supervisory responsibilities. Effective communication with staff, teaching, coaching, mentoring, positively influencing central processing employees as well as role modeling service excellence and customer service is an integral component of this position. Serves as backup in the department Director’s absence.
Qualifications:
• BSN/RN required, will consider experienced RN with alternate 4-year degree in healthcare related field
• Minimum 3-5 years of documented leadership and supervisory experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in OR or Sterile Processing.
• Management/leadership experience as well as experience in an educational role in a surgical setting required.
• Must have or obtain within the first 6 months of employment, one or more of the following certifications: CBSPD, CRCST, CNOR, or equivalent as applicable.
• Must demonstrate effective leadership skills.
• Considerable ability to manage, educate and motivate people.
• Ability to define, organize and implement work processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Computer analysis, information skills required.
