Med-Call Staffing
The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring quality medical care in compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations and standards of care. Responsible for the professional, organizational, and administrative aspects of the clinic and quality of care provided to Primary Care patients. The Medical Director reports to the CMO.
1. Maintains a Quality Assurance Program that defines methods for the identification and selection of clinical and administrative problems, along with strategies for corrective action to better provide services in accordance with current standards of professional practice.
2. Prescribes medical care for each client as needed, including medications, therapies, and special diets, and such other care as necessary.
3. Indicates any restriction on personal activity.
4. Supervises the clinic‘s medical staff: The Associate medical director, the Nurse Practitioners and the physicians; and collaborates with the Director of Psychiatry on the supervision of the PNP.
5. In concert with the nursing staff, maintains ongoing communication with clients' primary care physicians to coordinate treatments.
6. Provides interim medical care and referral for new clients who are not yet medically affiliated.
7. Provides clinical updates on AIDS issues and education on medical, health, and pharmaceutical issues to staff and clients.
8. When appropriate, provides on-site emergency care.
9. Maintains an agency specific DEA number and, with Nurse Coordinator, supervises off-site pharmacy services.
10. Provides primary care services, including coordination of inpatient patient and emergency room services.
11. Performs and coordinates needed medical services, including initial medical assessments and on-site laboratory procedures.
12. Takes call as needed by the Primary Care Clinic and Managed Care Physician Network.
13. Monitors the quality of care rendered at the Primary Care Clinic.
14. Monitors and maintains an internal quality assurance program for the Primary Care Clinic.
15. Attends all Primary Care related meetings.
16. Attends all Managed Care related meetings.
17. Provides clinical oversight for the OASAS program in coordination with the Psychiatric director including, but not limited to:
• Medical services provided by the program;
• Oversight of the development and revision of medical policies, procedures and ongoing training; for public health education and screening; to ensure the provision of routine services;
• Collaborative supervision with the program director of non-medical staff in the provision of substance use disorder services;
• Assistance in the development of necessary referral and linkage relationships with other institution and agencies; and to ensure program complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations
1. Currently licensed and registered as a physician with the New York State Department of Health.
2. Board Certified/Board Eligible in Medicine, Family Medicine and/or Infectious Diseases, and/or demonstrated expertise and experience in HIV/AIDS medicine.
3. Medical Director holds either:
• A subspecialty board certification in addiction psychiatry from the American Board of Medical Specialties; or
• An addiction certification from the American Board of Addiction Medicine; or
• A certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM); or
• A subspecialty board certification in Addiction Medicine from the American Osteopathic Association
