Overview of Responsibilities:
This role supports inpatient unit operations, serving as a leader and clinical liaison with staff, physicians, and management. The unit coordinator acts as a role model, coach, and mentor while ensuring compliance with policies, safety standards, and quality care.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership:
Evaluate and ensure quality care delivery.
Serve as a resource and mentor to staff.
Coordinate shared governance meetings and facilitate teamwork.
Staffing & Scheduling:
Oversee staff schedules and day-to-day assignments.
Adjust staffing levels as needed for call-ins or volume changes.
Approve/deny PTO and maintain open communication on scheduling.
Performance & Development:
Monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing feedback and development plans.
Assist with hiring, orientation, and retention strategies.
Participate in disciplinary processes and employee evaluations.
Operations:
Support patient placement and ensure proper staff utilization.
Conduct audits for accreditation, regulatory compliance, and organizational standards.
Act as a clinical and service recovery resource, addressing immediate issues.
Innovation & Collaboration:
Foster an environment encouraging creativity and innovation.
Build positive relationships within the healthcare team.
Act as a liaison with department management to ensure alignment with goals.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (required).
Master’s degree in Nursing (preferred).
Experience:
Progressive clinical experience required.
Previous management or leadership experience (preferred).
Licensure:
Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.
Certifications:
Advanced nursing-specific certification (preferred).
Department-specific requirements (e.g., PALS, BLS, ACLS).
Skills:
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Problem-solving ability and proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Data organization and analysis skills.
Ability to manage regulatory standards and deadlines independently.
Fluent in English (written and verbal).
